The crazier the picture, the more ridiculous the message, the more enjoyable the birthday card will be for the honoree. A funny card is saying �have a laugh on me�!

AHEAD OF TIME!

Belated birthday cards are not cool! They do help with the guilt, but please setup a birthday reminder system.

Most date books have a place to keep birthday lists. Also you can use your personal computer�s software (e.g. MicroSoft�s Outlook �) to setup annual reminders for birthdays. There are services online to have reminder emails sent days in advance of the event.

It does not make sense to celebrate the Fourth of July on the 5th or 6th!

AGE RELATED!

Cards with the honoree�s age are cool from ages one to twenty-one. Do yourself a favor and the honoree a favor; do not be remembered as the person who sent the �over the hill� birthday card. The honoree will believe you think he or she is truly �over the hill�. Be respectful of the honoree�s feelings about his or her age.

ASTROLOGICAL!

The cards for the birth date and the Zodiac are fun and inspirational. Everyone knows their Zodiac sign and its attributes. The Zodiac is one of the great themes for a birthday party.

AT WORK!

Perfect Birthday Cards for co-workers or the boss should be less sentimental and never suggestive!!!

A birthday may be the perfect occassion to let the person know that you appreciate his or her kindness and support at work.

For the boss it may be the occassion to recognize leadership or coaching skills on his or her birthday.

FUNNY OR NOT!

A humorous birthday card can backfire on you! I once gave my mother a card that had a pig dressed as an opera singer on the front and the message inside was: �It�s not over until the fat lady sings!� She did not think it was nearly as funny as I did.

From the birthday honoree�s point of view, select humorous cards after careful thought.

I have seen some awfully suggestive birthday cards. Do not be tempted to send these to anyone you care about. Believe me, off-color birthday cards will not be kept, cherished or displayed.

FAMILY!

Mother, Father, Wife, Son-style birthday cards are GREAT! These cards establish upfront the bond, love and pride we have for a family member. The message in the card celebrates two ideas: birthday and family membership. Best recommendation I can give is to always give a family member a family-style card.

FAMOUS!

Celebrities and their birthdays become significant if you believe in horoscopes and the destiny of stars.

These birthday cards are fun and may tell the honoree that you see him or her in the same light. On the other hand, if you know that a person admires Elvis and does not have the same horoscope, give them an Elvis card anyway.

Celebrities like Elvis and others are great ideas for birthday party themes. Imagine the perfect birthday card, the music, the clothes, and the cake!

FORGET ABOUT IT!
