The traditional February gem is the amethyst birthstone. These gemstones are found in Canada, Brazil, Uruguay, United States, Mexico, India, Sri Lanka, Siberia, Africa, Madagascar, Italy and Germany.
AMETHYST MINES - TOURS AND RECREATION
The largest deposit of amethyst in North America is near Ontario, Canada.
In the United States amethysts are found in the following states: Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Utah.
There are some very interesting and rewarding mines open to the public in Colorado, Georgia, and New Hampshire,
as well as in Thunder Bay in Ontario.

Thunder Bay is in the heart of amethyst country, a place to find the Perfect Amethyst Birthstone.
It is reported that no where else in the world do you find such quality amethyst in such quantity.
There are several area mines with open pits for the public to pay a fee to mine.

There are four sites in Colorado with mines.
The most famous are Red Feather Lakes and Creede area mines.
The Crystal Hill Mine and Amethyst Queen Mines are not open to the public.

Georgia, USA
The Jackson's Crossroad Amethyst Deposit is open to the public by appointment.
It is a high-quality, new site requiring work to find the minerals.
The amethysts are abundant but you will need to dig.
Because it is such a new site, plan on bringing your own tools and supplies for the dig.

Grafton, New Hampshire
The Ruggles Mine is open to the public and has deposits of mica, feldspar, beryl, and amethyst.
It is the oldest and largest mine of its kind in the United States.
