May Birthstone
The May birthstone is the emerald.
The color green is symbolic of spring and renewal. The ancient Egyptians buried emerald gemstones with the dead and believed they represented eternal youth. The emerald was Cleopatra's favorite gem.
In the Book of Exodus, precious stones are described in the priest's breastplate - each stone represented a different tribe of Israel. There are several interpretations for which stone is the emerald, but it is agreed that the emerald is included. This may be one of the origins for our tradition of birthstones.
It is believed that an emerald helps the person develop patience and empathy!!! The emerald has a unique structure and all larger stones have veins that appear as vines.
The emerald is associated with nature since the Egyptians who use to carve leaves on the stones to complete the vine appearance.
