Birthday Parties
For birthday parties there are some social guidelines to follow for pleasant and fun celebrations.
From the honoree’s point of view, consider the guest list, the venue, the theme, the attire, the music, and the memories.
Etiquette is set by example. If you are the host or hostess, be on your toes! The goal is to make everyone comfortable at the party. Be polite and calm during the celebration.
As the host or hostess, you are responsible for each guest. If you think you will be too busy to greet each guest, assign a helper to greet, take coats, introduce, and generally make the guests feel at ease.
If you are the host, remember to put the honoree first in all activities at his or her birthday party.
Perfect Party menu planning may be as simple as making reservations, or as complicated as cooking all the food yourself (or with help).
The menu and theme should be decided at least four weeks in advance of the party. This is the same time the guest list is prepared. Knowing your guests will help with dietary needs and will minimize food problems on the day of the party.
Prepare enough food for the time of day. For example, if the party is from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, snacks and drinks are enough. If the party is during the lunch or dinner hour, assume that people will be expecting a meal.
If you are offering cocktails be sure to include appetizers for people to snack before the meal.
The easy planner for perfect celebrations is focused on defining the details, preparing tasks on a schedule, and organizing tasks for help.
The easy planner also guides you through three areas that need close attention when giving a party:
1. For the honoree and guests: Hostess needs to follow the 10 Birthday Party Rules!
2. For the overall party plan: Share your party ideas and plans with people who are helping with the party for their feedback and later support.
3. For the party tasks: Ask for help with tasks and expense if appropriate.
See a step-by-step party planner. Write the week-by-week suggestions in your notebook and track your progress as you near the party date!!!
THEME
Let the party theme lead you to the appropriate entertainment, games, and favors for guests. The more closely associated with the theme, the more fun it will become for the perfect Happy Birthday celebration.
For example, the apple in the Halloween game (passing it from person to person under the chin) could become a baseball for a sports enthusiast. If you are near a professional sports team, favors could be autographed pictures, balls, etc. A poster of Elvis in a 1950's theme party could be used to pin Blue Suede Shoes (as in Pin the Tale on the Donkey game).
MUSIC
Select music for the mood and the theme you want to have for the Happy Birthday party if the venue permits. Background music is effective in helping people relax and socialize.
LIGHTING
Ensure that there is the proper lighting for all age groups. Have stairwells well lit. Add string lights where it is possible. Be careful with candles around small children.
AGES OF GUESTS
The music, entertainment, and games should be selected appropriately for all age groups to enjoy the activities.
Use the planning lists to make your party decisions for Children's Parties too.
