When planning a birthday celebration for more than 4 people, call the restaurant several weeks (4 to 6) in advance to reserve tables for a group dinner. Another reason you need to call in advance is to see if the restaurant plans to be closed for vacations or holidays.

For the perfect party venue, ask for a menu and be familiar with the dishes to determine if your group's dietary needs may be met (e.g. diabetics, allergies, etc.). Also if small children will be attending, ask if the restaurant approves children and what is available for children on the menu. The theme of the birthday party (sports, garden, movies, etc.) and the perfect party venue need to be compatible.

It is not necessary that a restaurant have a children's menu, only that the dishes are not to spicy or impractical for children. Often appetizers will work for the children's menu very well.
